His eldest brother, Sando, went to work in the mine to support the family business, and eight-year-old Rando brought him food and listened to stories of the deep veins of crystal. One day, one of the adits collapsed: raw crystal tore through the rock, blinding the workers with a blue glow and in a matter of minutes turning them - Sando included - into creatures of the Abyss. Rando watched as his brother, no longer human, rushed upward, and was forced to retreat along with the survivors. From that night on, the boy learned a simple rule: unprocessed Spark means death to all living things.
